Fun with Paint

I love my double sided fireplace, but when it came time dress it with art, I was drawing a blank. Because one side was a large, white brick wall I knew that 1) I needed some color, 2) it needed to be fairly large, 3) I didn't want to spend a lot of money, and 4) I wanted something personal. After doing some research I found a few different options, but I still wasn't sold on them, that's when I decided to let Jena make the artwork.

We started out by getting kid friendly paint at Michaels. We only got four colors, red, orange, white, and black, which we mixed to make other colors. Next we purchased stretched canvas at Jo-Anns. Depending on the size, stretched canvas can be expensive so it's worth it to use a coupon or wait for a sale. We got lucky because Jo-Anns was having a 50% off sale on all canvas when we purchased them. When we got home Lauren and I painted the entire canvas' in one color and let it dry before letting the girls create their masterpieces. Once dry, we spread an old sheet on the floor and put the paint in plastic bowls so the girls could go crazy! Needless to say this gets messy so wear old clothing. When the girls were done, we dipped their feet in black paint to create a signature!

Tempera paint is used in Jena's daycare. I found these at Michaels.

This is the final product!
Don't forget to let your little artist sign it!

This is a wonderful way to create fun, customized art for any space! You could also do this on a smaller scale, frame them and give them as gifts. Have fun, be creative and don't be afraid to make a mess!
